Sharon is a ReStore Volunteer

We had a chance to talk with one of the many volunteers who give their time and energy at our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. You can watch the video or read the transcript below.

(Shameless plug: The ReStore is located at 3315 S. Cobb Drive, Suite 150, Smyrna, GA 30080. Our hours are 10 am – 6 pm, Tuesday – Saturday,
for you to shop, donate or volunteer!)

Interviewer: I am here today with one of our Habitat Restore volunteers. Do me a favor and tell me your name.

Sharon: Sharon Scanlin.

Interviewer: Okay, Sharon. Tell us a little bit about how you decided to volunteer at the Habitat ReStore.

Sharon: I really like the whole Habitat idea of taking time to help people that need help. I was a single mom and I raised three kids. I did not have to struggle as much as some people do but it was not easy. I want to give back to the women who put themselves in the back and put their kids first.

Interviewer: Tell us what you do when you are here volunteering at the ReStore.

Sharon: I look first to find the kinds of things need to be taken care of right off the bat. Those can be things such as the straightening up from the day before, where people have gone through things looking at them. I make it more appealing in a retail way. I also do a lot of pricing. I will be in the back and do the research on Google to find retail prices for items that we have been lucky enough to have donated to us. I try to price them in a way that makes them turn over quickly enough without sitting here too long.

Interviewer: Tell us what your favorite thing about volunteering here is.

Sharon: The camaraderie. The customers. I love the customers. They are the nicest people. Also, everybody who works here, whether they are volunteering or they actually work here, just has an aura of happiness about them. It is contagious.

Interviewer: Sharon, thank you so much. Thanks for volunteering your time.
