March Sponsor/Volunteer Spotlight: Rick and Anne Gieryn

“From everyone to whom much has been given,
much will be required.”

Rick and Anne Gieryn exemplify this passage. The East Cobb couple were not content to sit on the retirement sidelines; instead used personal resources and recruited a network of friends and family in 2017 to build a home for a deserving Habitat family.

The couple was seeking a volunteer opportunity where they could have direct contact with the people being helped and Habitat for Humanity gave them that opportunity. The Gieryns worked closely with the homeowner family throughout the process.

“It was a lot of work but very fulfilling,” says Rick. When asked about the on-site building, Anne said, “My (adult) daughter got to use a nail gun! Each of the nine Saturdays was a fun day”.

The Gieryns are returning as sponsors and volunteers in 2018. The couple says many of their friends and family were fulfilled by last year’s experience and will be returning once again. Thank you Gieryns!
