Local High School Students Play Santa for Four Deserving Families This Holiday Season

EastCobberPopeHabitat‘Tis the season for giving back, and students from Pope High School’s Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter played Santa for four deserving families in Cobb County.

On Dec. 17, the students dropped off four carloads of presents at the NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity offices.

“This year, as a board, we decided as our way of giving back to the community, we wanted to do to make it more personal,” said Megan Lee, president of the Pope High School Habitat chapter. “We wanted to specifically find a family to make a connection with and help them have a memorable holiday season.”

NWMAH Family Resources Team found the students four families who have hit on hard financial times this season, and the students were ready to give back to them. They worked hard to fulfill all the items on the wishlist such as bicycles, scooters and sports equipment.

“It’s refreshing and encouraging to see young people bind themselves together to reach out and help someone that they have never met,” David McGinnis, CEO of NWMAH, said. “Our mission statement says we build homes, community and hope. That’s what these young people are doing – building hope – not only for these families in this time of season, but hope for society as a whole because young people are still doing good things.”
