Construction Committee Honors Volunteers

Members of NW Metro Atlanta Habitat’s construction committee celebrated 2017 accomplishments at their 2018 kick-off meeting last week. The annual awards banquet was previously cancelled due to the December snow. The group, comprised mostly of retirees, directed and supervised the building of 13 new Habitat homes in 2017. The volunteers provide construction guidance and direction for more than 1,000 volunteer builders throughout the year, as well as spend their time during the week to work on the house in preparation for the following week’s build.

The Lifetime Achievement Award presented to George Davis for his 27 years of volunteering for NW Metro Atlanta Habitat. George, a retired commercial and Navy pilot, became one of the “Grey Ghosts” upon his retirement in 2002. The staff and other volunteers recognize George as a hardworking, articulate and caring leader. One friend remarked “the only time George will stop working is after everyone else has gone through the lunch line or when an aircraft flies overhead!”

The Golden Hammer Award went to Suzanne Richardson recognizing the outstanding job she did of leading a crew and the significant commitment of time and energy she made to improve affiliate’s construction efforts.

The Golden Cat’s Paw Awards were given to Crew or House Leaders who have worked on several houses and made notable commitments to the improvement of the affiliate’s build activity. Award recipients were Mike Willard, Bart Thein, Dale Nawrocki and Kevin Richardson.

(Hello, gentle readers.  The editor apologizes for not having pictures of all the award recipients. If you happen to have a picture of one or more of the honorees, send it to me and I will post it.  smedia@nwmetroatlantahabitat.org.  Thanks in advance for your help.)
