NW Metro Habitat for Humanity announced that Assurant hammered the first nail on its 15th annual Habitat house in Cobb County on April 12 on Chestnut Hill Drive in Marietta.

Assurant team members from its Atlanta offices will build alongside the new homeowner for nine consecutive Thursdays for the family of four.

“We are so thankful for the continuing support from our cornerstone partners like Assurant. Their annual support of volunteers and money have changed the lives of generations for Habitat families,” said David McGinnis, NW Metro Atlanta Habitat’s president and CEO.

“Habitat for Humanity is a longtime, valued partner in the communities where Assurant employees live and work and we are committed to helping families build strength, stability, independence and shelter across the NW Metro Atlanta area,” said David Diggs, local Assurant employee engagement champion team leader. “Our Assurant team here in Atlanta have enjoyed working with NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and continue this effort as we show our Assurant Cares spirit in 2018.” Habitat homeowners purchase their homes through zero-interest loans and contribute at least 200 hours of “sweat equity” by working on the construction of their own home and those of other participants. They also receive education in home ownership and financial stewardship. In addition to the 15 houses sponsored and built in full by Assurant volunteers and the Assurant Foundation, Assurant’s Atlanta office has partnered on two more projects with co-sponsors. Assurant has 2,000 employees in the metro Atlanta area.

NW Metro Atlanta Habitat, serving Cobb, Douglas and Paulding counties, is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, the worldwide housing organization.
