What Habitat Means to Me

(Written by Bobbie, our Accounting Manager) When I first applied with Habitat I had been in the management arena of Corporate America. I felt I had climbed the corporate ladder and was proud of that.  But my spirit longed for something more. I had a roller coaster ride with my health, but God’s grace and healing gave me hope and a time for new opportunities and adventures.  I was ready for a change.  So what would I do this time?

I saw the ad in the paper for Cobb County Habitat for Humanity (the name of our affiliate at that time).   It was a different position and I didn’t know much about Habitat.  So being the detailed person that I am, I went to the HFHI’s website to read about Habitat. I read about how Habitat was conceived, the vision, the mission, the need.  But in all this it was about God’s plan given to a couple to meet a need in this country and in the world.

As I was contemplating on my next adventure of what to do and where to spend my time (corporate or something else), my husband David asked me, “What would you like to spend your time doing?”

I felt that God was tugging at my spirit to use my time wisely in something worthwhile this time. I wanted to take the job with Habitat.  I wanted to be a part of a Christian Ministry that is doing something to help others, that is not looking for profit or status in the community but only working the plan laid out by GOD to help those in need.

David and I prayed about it and like most of us hoped that we were hearing from the LORD correctly and I decided to pursue the position with Cobb County Habitat. I began my adventure with Habitat on November 15th 2004. I have enjoyed the blessings from the families, the builds, my coworkers including those who have come and gone and of course, all the volunteers, gray ghosts and others that I have had an opportunity to cross paths with along the way.

I look forward to the future and the plans the LORD has entrusted to our president, David McGinnis, as he leads our affiliate into a new adventure of this ministry.

Romans 12:2 — Do not be conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Matthew 23: 26 – Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

So here is the question- what does Habitat mean to me?

It is my opportunity to be a missionary for God, to help others, to work with other Christians with the same goals, to give GOD the glory, praise and honor that he deserves, and to thank him for allowing me to serve in HIS name to be his representative by way of NW Metro Atlanta Habitat.

So my question to you is “What does Habitat mean to you?”
