Thirteen Cobb County Faith-Based Organizations Build NW Metro Atlanta Habitat Home

Smyrna, GA (August 20, 2015) – The NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity’s Cobb Interfaith Habitat Coalition, made up of thirteen area faith-based organizations, is nearing completion of their newest Habitat for Humanity home.

Work to raise the new home began on June 27 and will culminate on Sunday, August 30, when it will be dedicated to a well-deserving single mother and her two children who call Cobb County home.

The Cobb Interfaith Habitat Coalition started in the mid-1990s and grew to include area churches, synagogues, mosques and temples. Since its formation, the coalition has built 21 homes housing over 70 people.

“The impact of this coalition’s camaraderie and generosity over the years has been felt across the community,” says David McGinnis, CEO of NW Metro Atlanta Habitat. “We are very fortunate to have the dedication of these organizations and their volunteers who uphold our mission to provide affordable housing for deserving families.”

The 2015 coalition is made up of the following faith-based organizations:

  • First United Lutheran of Kennesaw
  • Bethany United Methodist Church
  • East Cobb Islamic Center
  • Faith United Methodist Church
  • Islamic Center of Marietta
  • Log Cabin Community Church
  • Pinkerton & Laws
  • Smyrna First United Methodist Church
  • Catherine’s Episcopal Church
  • Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church
  • Temple Kol Emeth
  • Unity North Atlanta Church

George Davis, a retired US Navy and commercial airline pilot, and Neil Booth, a retired account executive from The Coca-Cola Company, led the build and managed over 100 volunteers over eight weeks. Combined, the two house leaders have dedicated more than 40 years to NW Metro Atlanta Habitat.
