Opa! At the 2017 Marietta Greek Festival

NW Metro Atlanta Habitat went Greek this past weekend! Over 60 Habitat volunteers participated in the Marietta Greek Festival.  Their efforts supported the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church’s sponsorship a of Habitat build. In addition to providing information about NW Metro Atlanta Habitat, the booth encouraged young artists to draw pictures on the Tyvek wrap that will be used on a future Habitat home! (See the photo at the top.)

Another fun activity was the Greek dancing.  We were all encouraged to call out “Opa! Opa!” when we were moved to praise the music and dancing.  Various dance groups from the Hellenic Dance Program performed for the enjoyment of festival attendees. From first grade through adults, dancers in traditional folk costumes demonstrated traditional dances from various regions of Greece.

Other entertainment included educational sessions on Greek culture, tours of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church and shopping in the Greek marketplace. Of course the highlight of the event was the fabulous food! We all had a wonderful time. Opa! Opa!
