Mt. Bethel is Building Community

IMG_8785Ashley O’Neil organized the Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church’s Habitat build this year. While on the build site for the first day of construction, she shared with us a few of her thoughts about the project.

“Saturday was a fantastic start to Mt. Bethel’s 36th Habitat for Humanity home build. This was my first opportunity to meet Miss Leah, the future homeowner, and she brought even more joy to the build site than the sunshine and donuts did! She has a friendly, smiling face and, like every Habitat homeowner, she is thankful and blessed. There is no doubt that this home will make a lasting impact on her children’s lives! It is so meaningful for us to serve through the NW Metro Atlanta Habitat ministry because we are not only helping people with home ownership, but also promoting positive change in our communities and families for generations to come.IMG_3157crop

One of my favorite verses is Romans 12:4-5. “Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.” We all know that everyone has different talents that glorify God. Some raise money, some take care of babies, some drive nails. My favorite part is the end of verse 5, “and we all belong to each other” where our talents add up and create the Body of Christ. I remember this when I’m working on the Habitat project each year because we are building community in so many ways. We’re adding Miss Leah’s family to our church community where we learn and grow together, we’re building a home for her in a literal community, and we’re showing off (and hopefully growing!) the body of Christ to so many build and race participants.

For those of you who have already signed up for the build or the Habitat Road Race, thank you! Sign up again! For those of you who still need to sign up, please head on over to www.HabitatRoadRace.com and learn how you can help us build the community for Christ!”

Our thanks go to Ashley and the rest of the Mt. Bethel volunteers.  We greatly admire and appreciate all that you do.
