Volunteer

NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though the vast majority have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.                 

The majority of the volunteer positions on a build site are filled by the sponsoring organization that provides the financial commitment to cover the basic house costs.   A full sponsorship is $65,000.00, which provides 25 volunteer slots per build day, for eight days.  Partial or co-sponsorship opportunities are available.    If your group or organization is interested in participating in a build opportunity, please visit the Sponsor a House page on this website to learn more about sponsorship opportunities.

There are volunteer opportunities with Habitat beyond the construction site. You may volunteer as an individual or as a group (click below in the volunteer link that is right for you).  Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many invaluable traits volunteers bring to the organization. With a minimal staff, NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity depends upon volunteers committees for support with projects like Family Selection, Family Support and office support.

AGE REQUIREMENTS AND RESTRICTIONS

A person must be 18 years of age or older to operate a power tool on a Habitat work site and do all other types of construction activity.  16 and older are able to work on a site during general construction but may not operate power tools or be on ladders or scaffolding.  

Ages 14-15, a person may not be on a work site during general construction.  Special work days for youth groups with ages 14-15 will be scheduled. 

Under age 14, a person may not be on the work site at any time.
