Flashback: Women’s Work

IMGcompressLinda Beggs, former Cobb County Habitat president, stopped by our office Friday to share some of her stories for our 30th anniversary celebration.  She even brought the Tshirt she had kept (see left) from the 1995  build project she headed called Women’s Work.

Habitat for Humanity had built other homes with “woman power,” but this project was the first in Cobb County. The women raised $50,000 to pay for the construction materials. They provided the organization, oversight and manual labor on a build site in the Powder Springs subdivision, Whispering Glen.  According to the Marietta Daily Journal, men were needed for “meals, child care and support” (MDJ, 1/23/1995).
