Construction

A Habitat home is a strong foundation for a family, an opportunity on which they can build a better life. Strong and stable homes help build strong and stable communities.

NW Metro Atlanta Habitat homes are built by volunteers with oversight provided by our Construction Department, trained House Leaders and Crew Leaders. Our craftsman-style homes have planned "Streetscape" landscaping. The homes have three or four bedrooms and two baths; the average size is approximately 1450 to 1600 square feet. All of our homes are built using "green building" practices that minimizes the impact of construction on the environment and results in a healthy, more valuable home. Habitat homes comply with all generally accepted standards as set forth by the county in which it is being built. The head of NW Metro Atlanta Habitat's construction department, Brett Thein, is a licensed general contractor in the State of Georgia.

Our Habitat homes are built over nine consecutive weeks. Volunteers working in conjunction with trained House Leaders spend an average of 6 hours each building day constructing various phases of the building plan. From day 1 which starts with the raising of the exterior walls through day 9, landscaping day, our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to complete the home.

Once we complete the build, we officially dedicate the home.  The dedication ceremony is an opportunity to bless the home and the new family who will occupy it and to recognize and thank the sponsors, construction team and volunteers who made it possible.
