The corporate sponsors dedicated their build to US Army veteran Matthew H. Matthew served in the Persian Gulf War and was honorably discharged after suffering an injury in 1993. No longer able to work, Matthew reached out to the VA for housing assistance through a supportive housing program for veterans. Through this program, he was introduced to Habitat for Humanity and given the opportunity to own a home.

“Thanks to the generous support of Cobb EMC members, we’re proud to partner with NW Metro Atlanta Habitat to help provide this deserving veteran and family an affordable home and to make their dream come true,” said John Umphlett, chairman of the Cobb EMC Community Foundation.

“We are humbled and grateful for Matthew’s service and sacrifice and are honored to dedicate this brand new home to him and his family,” says David McGinnis, CEO of NW Metro Atlanta Habitat. “We are also very fortunate to have these great sponsors and their volunteers who uphold our mission to provide affordable housing for deserving families, which includes our veterans.”

“This is the best day of my life”, Matthew stated. “The opportunity to become a homeowner is a blessing to me and my family. It’s what we’ve been praying for,” Matthew said. “I will definitely give back to the organization that has done so much for me.”
