The community is invited to join Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory, the Catholic churches of Cobb County and partners at the NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity for the dedication of two new Habitat homes today at 11 a.m. The new Habitat homes are at 432 and 427 Lee Road, Mableton, 30126.

The 11 a.m. ceremony will begin with an opening prayer, led by Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory, a blessing on each house, recognition of the sponsors and volunteers, thoughts from the new homeowners and a closing benediction. Home tours and refreshments will also be available.

“This is a tangible opportunity for our families to have a fresh start. Their new home will be a foundation for them as they continue to grow in their lives in so many good ways,” Archbishop Gregory said. “Thank you to all who have dedicated their time and efforts toward this significant day.”

In 1992, planning began for several Catholic parishes in Cobb County to join the NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity in their efforts. The first houses were completed (rehabs) in 1993, and since then, they have built 39 homes for deserving families in need in Cobb County.

Seven Catholic parishes in Cobb County, known as the Catholic Coalition, participate in the Habitat ministry. The coalition includes St. Ann (Marietta), Holy Family (Marietta), Transfiguration (Marietta), St. Joseph (Marietta), St. Catherine of Siena (Kennesaw) and St. Clare of Assisi (Woodstock).

Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all. Since 1986, the NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity has been providing safe, decent, affordable homes to deserving, well-qualified families. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the affiliate has built over 469 homes locally and funded the building of 350 homes in Uganda.

NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, an affiliate of the international organization, works with the community to provide safe, decent, affordable homes to deserving, well-qualified families in Cobb, Douglas and Paulding counties. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the affiliate has built more than 469 homes since 1986.
