New Crew Leader – Amanda

We are delighted to welcome our new crew leader, Amanda, to our affiliate. She is a graduate of Georgia Tech, with a degree in architecture. She now works in Campus Planning at Georgia Tech.

Although Amanda is new to us, she has been involved in mission work and construction since high school. Over those summers, she participated in three World Changers Gospel-Sharing and Construction summer projects. During the weeklong trips to Charlotte, Nashville and Augusta, she and fellow church members would install roofing, paint and work on other general construction tasks.

While Amanda was attending Georgia Tech, she volunteered with International Student Volunteers on a one-month trip to Costa Rica, where she worked on her first Habitat project. Later, she joined Habitat for Humanity International for a trip to Nicaragua to spend a week building a masonry home.

Early this year, Amanda heard about our need for more crew leaders to handle the heavy building schedule we have planned. She came to the February construction meeting and signed up for training. She feels Habitat is a great fit for her, because she likes construction and she likes mission work. She says, “What I really like about Habitat, is you work alongside the future homeowner, as well as other homeowners to build a home. It builds a community.”

Amanda invites you to join us. Anyone could be trained to be a crew leader. We need lots of different experiences and strengths. After all, it only takes a day to try it out to see if you like it. You might be hooked. The next construction meeting is April 19, at 6 pm, at our office, 1625 Spring Road SE, Smyrna, GA, 30080.
